Where the Songs Began

My songwriting journey grew from my involvement in a small worship group within my church community in Jamaica. We sang together and provided background vocals for one of our brothers in the church, a songwriter and recording artist who had created several albums of original gospel music.

Being part of that environment - singing original songs, worshipping together, and continually hearing the preaching of holiness - began to awaken something in me. In 2010, I began writing spiritual songs of my own.

Inspiration could come from a message at church, me reading the Scriptures, during prayer, a quiet walk, personal reflection, or a long drive. A melody or a few words would come to mind, and I would quickly reach for pen and paper or record the idea on my phone so I would not lose the words, melody, rhythm or flow.

By God's grace, those moments have grown into more than 30 original songs about worship, prayer, love, patience, surrender, life's experiences, seeking God, and the desire to know Him more.

When Life Took Me Somewhere New

Many of my songs were written years ago and remained largely private as recordings on my phone.

As life continued, my professional career developed, and volunteering opportunities positioned me to lead, manage projects, collaborate with others, and contribute to meaningful work. Those experiences have taught me discipline, stewardship, perseverance, and the importance of following through on what has been entrusted to me.

Then came another major chapter: migrating from Jamaica to Canada. Starting again in a new country brought new responsibilities, adjustments, opportunities, and priorities. For a time, singing and songwriting moved quietly into the background but the songs never really left, and neither did my relationship with God. In time, He renewed my motivation to sing, write, and revisit the gift He had given me years before.

The Song That Reminded Me

In 2024, I had the opportunity to share at a church convention one of my original songs - a song I had written ten years earlier, in 2014.

There was something special about finally hearing a song that had lived with me privately for so many years being shared with others. The words and the delivery were a true testimony to God, oh how it touched my heart. Members of my church community shared how the song had blessed them, and several encouraged me to go further with the gift God had given me.

That experience became an important part of my “why now?” I began to consider that perhaps these songs were never meant to remain only in my notebooks and phone recordings. After years of writing, life changes, encouragement, prayer, and reflection, I decided to take a step of faith toward professionally recording and releasing my original music with God’s help and permission.

A Life of Service

Service has always been an important part of who I am.

While living in Jamaica, I served as Sisterhood President within my local church, supporting and encouraging women not only spiritually, but personally - listening, uplifting, empowering, and simply being there when someone needed support.

After moving to Canada, I remained connected to my faith and church community. Today, I serve as Communications Secretary for my local temple, supporting communication, coordination, ministry initiatives, and the connection between members, Ministers, auxiliaries, committees, and the local ministry. In every aspect of my life, I believe there is value in using what God has given us to serve others well.

Beyond the Music

There is also a quiet side to me. I love experiencing nature at its best - the beauty and peacefulness of God's creation. I treasure time in the company of family and good friends, but I equally appreciate my own space. Sometimes being alone, reflecting, thinking, praying, or simply enjoying the stillness is exactly what I need. Perhaps that is also why so many songs have found me in quiet places.

At heart, I am a giver. I find joy in doing something that puts a smile on someone's face or makes their day a little better. I don't need much in return. Sometimes seeing a smile or simply hearing the words “thank you” is enough.

Why EsterWill-Worship?

EsterWill has always been my social media name, so it was easy to use it as my “singing” / “artist” name. EsterWill-Worship is something broader: the space where my music and the journey surrounding it can live.

I don't want this journey to be only about songs, releases, streams, or performances. I want my music, my words, and ultimately my life to reflect worship and my obedience to God, my pursuit of Him, and my desire for more of Him.

As I prepare to release my first professionally produced single, I am stepping into unfamiliar territory. There is much to learn, but I am grateful for the opportunity to finally give these songs the attention they have been waiting for.

My prayer is that, as they find their way from private recordings to finished music, they will encourage someone, offer hope, or inspire another person to seek God more deeply.
